About the role
"We have the best teachers here!"
"You will have so much fun with us!"
Our children are excited to welcome a new member to our school family and that could be you.
Are you an ECT looking for a great start to your career? Are you a teacher looking to further develop your skills in a different setting? Then we could be the setting for you. We are a one-form entry school with a close knit team of dedicated and friendly staff. We strive for all of our stakeholders to enjoy their experiences in our school, and feel respected and valued.
We are looking for a Year 1 teacher to support and develop a new continuous provision approach in our Year 1 classroom. We have identified the huge jump between Reception and Year 1 as something to focus on and develop, and we need a dynamic teacher to work alongside our Early Years Lead to develop a new style of Year 1. We will continue to meet the expectations of the Year 1 curriculum, but through a much more play based environment. We have a large classroom and a blank canvas of an outside area for the right person to come and develop. We are eager to develop this provision and so you will be supported by both our EYFS lead, and members of our SLT to set up an engaging, inspiring and aspirational environment for our Year 1 class. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for anyone with an interest in Early Years or Key Stage 1. If you want to know more, arrange a visit to see us before the Easter Holidays!
We want every day to count for our children. As a team we work hard to ensure that learning opportunities are exciting. As far as possible, first hand experiences are used to stimulate curiosity and engage the children. We are lucky that we have extensive grounds for outdoor learning which include a small wood, a pond and raised beds for gardening. We have a supportive Governing Body who value and encourage enrichment opportunities as part of the children's entitlement. The ‘whole child’ is at the centre of everything we do and part of our ethos is to develop something that each child can hold as ‘unique’ to them, be it academic, musical, sporty, performance, leadership or a combination.
We have a nurturing ethos for the children and are a 'No Outsiders' school and hold flagship status for the Inclusion Quality Mark. We further develop our provision for building confidence and self-esteem through our own Forest School, which every class has opportunities to experience. We also work hard at valuing staff wellbeing and workload. Our marking and planning policies have been reviewed to ensure that expectations have an impact on the children rather that staff workload. There are many opportunities for professional development and these are tailored to development and career aspiration.
If this is a school that appeals to you, please come and have a look around. Visits are strongly encouraged, please contact the school office on 01442 408964 or email the school to arrange.
At Micklem Primary School the health, safety and wellbeing of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils. If shortlisted, candidates will be asked to complete a self-declaration where they will be required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020).
The successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, medical clearance, acceptable online search and satisfactory references. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion. Please note, references will be taken up before interview.
