Description
Verulam places great emphasis on extra-curricular activity and engagement and benefits from outstanding attendance and exemplary behaviour.
Verulam School is a high achieving boys’ school with a mixed Sixth Form, which forms part of the highly successful BeauSandVer consortium. As a school, our core values of “Excellence, Character, Respect” permeate all that we do. We are located in St Albans, a beautiful Cathedral city with a lively cultural life surrounded by countryside but still only 20 minutes from London by train and with easy access to motorways and airports.
The school has good GCSE and A Level results and achieved an above average Progress 8 score of +0.36 in 2023 and estimated +0.5 in 2024. It was judged to be a Good school in all categories by Ofsted in October 2018.
Verulam School is a member of the Ambition Education Trust, a group of 10 Hertfordshire primary and secondary schools. We work together within the Trust to share best practice, deliver joint training, promote the highest of expectations and raise achievement for all students. The Trust’s motto is ‘Educational Excellence for All.’ The Trust offers significant opportunities for career development of staff at all levels of the organisation.
Early Career Teacher Package
Ambtion Education Trust offers an enhanced induction programme for all of their Early Career Teachers (ECTs). This programme normally commences at the beginning of July with our 3-week summer induction programme. Attendance on the induction attracts an attendance payment of £2,000 (£1,000 paid in July and £1,000 paid in August). ECTs are then contracted on the main pay scale from 1st September. The induction programme is delivered at home schools as well as jointly, enabling all ECTs to meet their peers within the Trust. All ECTs are provided with a laptop.
Individual support is provided by subject and senior leader mentors and we offer subject specific as well as general training through the Alban Teaching School Alliance (ATSA) and Herts for Learning (HfL) events, for example:
• HfL subject specific training (not the ECT conference)
• ECT networks (secondary and primary)
• New to form tutor training (if appropriate)
• Attendance at Teaching and Learning Conference (date TBC)
• Subject specific enhancement in (Maths, MFL, Physics) – if needed
Ambition Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to a post at AET is subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, as well as other pre-appointment checks including an online check, as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
We are committed to the aim of ensuring that everyone who applies to work for us receives fair treatment and we positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of age, disability, race, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage and civil partnership and caring status. We expect all our staff to demonstrate a commitment to advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relations.
