About the Trust

Brighter Futures Educational Trust is a small trust that makes a big difference. The Trust, formed of two schools - Larwood (mixed primary) and Brandles (boys secondary) - specialises in providing outstanding educational pathways within a nurturing environment for children with social, emotional, mental health needs and behavioural difficulties.

About the roles

We are seeking trustees (non-executive directors) who have experience in management/leadership roles. Trustees are the key decision makers responsible for setting direction for the Trust, holding the executive to account and ensuring financial probity. The time commitment for trustees varies, however you can expect to meet six times a year for Board meetings (three in person and three online) and four to five times a year for one of the  various sub committees (online).  Membership of sub committees is based on skills and experience.  You will also be requested to visit one of our schools once a term.

In particular we are looking for individuals with:

A background or interest in education who can analyse information and data related to attendance, behaviour and attainment (Standards Committee)

  • Financial qualifications and expertise to chair our Finance and Resources (FRC) Committee
  • Experience in internal/external audit and/or risk management (Audit and Risk Committee)

A full induction and training programme for all roles will be provided upon joining the Trust.

About you

For all roles we are seeking individuals who:

  • Are prepared to commit to the responsibilities of a role and to their own personal development
  • Are strong team players, aware of their collective responsibility while also able to offer an impartial perspective
  • Have good self-awareness and are strong communicators with the ability to listen and reflect
  • Are creative, curious and able to offer appropriate and constructive challenge while being supportive
  • Are analytical, able to evaluate and interpret management information/data and draw out key themes and issues
  • Are prepared to take on leadership responsibilities in due course, which could include chairing a sub-committee or overseeing performance management.

The Trust is committed to ensuring it has diversity in all aspects; background, knowledge, skills and experience within and across its governance, and regularly audits these areas.
