About the role
Teacher of Technology
Main or Upper Pay Scale
Start date: September 2025
Hitchin Girls’ School is a high performing school, graded Outstanding by Ofsted, where we provide an exceptional experience for all of our students. We have high level provision for teaching and learning and provide the greatest level of care and support for all students and our staff. Situated in the picturesque and historic market town of Hitchin, it is conveniently located in the beautiful countryside just 25 minutes from London by train and with easy access to motorways and airports.
We are seeking a talented and passionate individual to join our team as a Teacher of Technology from September 2025. You will either be an experienced practitioner with excellent pedagogical knowledge and communication skills or have the potential to develop into such a practitioner. The ability to teach Graphic Products/Product Design/Design technology at all key stages is essential; the ability to teach Adobe Illustrator (or willingness to learn) would be an advantage, as would any experience of using CAD, especially Sketchup.
The Design and Technology Department at Hitchin Girls’ School is a very special place to teach. Despite its modest size, this department plays a pivotal role in fostering creativity and practical skills among students. The intimate setting allows for personalised attention, ensuring that each student receives hands-on guidance in various aspects of Design and Technology. The dedicated teachers in this department go above and beyond to cultivate a supportive learning environment, encouraging students to explore their interests in Graphics, Product Design, Textiles & Food. We offer a range of extra curricular clubs such as Model making club and Textiles club and we run trips to Design Museums in London and Europe.
We can offer you:
-
a secure, supportive environment with a full induction programme for all new staff
-
outstanding professional development and future career opportunities
-
a positive working environment within an extremely well-resourced school
-
the chance to work with exceptionally committed colleagues who have high expectations of students
-
an active focus on staff well-being, supporting staff throughout the year with various treats/initiatives
-
access to the school’s children of staff admission rule
-
a cycle to work scheme
The appointment would suit an experienced teacher or an ECT as the school provides a thorough and successful training programme. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who wants to join a high performing school and gain significant experience to further enhance their career.
