About the role

Oaklands Primary School is looking for an experienced SENDCo to join our inclusive, highly committed team. Due to an increasing number of pupils requiring additional support—currently 17 children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and 24% of our overall pupil population on the SEND register—we are looking to appoint a part-time SENDCo to work alongside our existing SENDCo.

We are looking for someone who values relationships, enjoys working with children, and wants to make a difference which provides a positive learning experience for our children.

The successful candidate will need to understand that all behaviour is communication.  Taking a non-judgemental, curious and empathic attitude towards behaviour is vital.  We encourage all our adults in school to respond in a way that focuses on the feelings and emotions that might drive certain behaviour, rather than the behaviour itself.

Our ideal candidate will be nurturing, ambitious and passionate about inspiring and supporting all children to develop and learn in an inclusive environment. They must be able to use their own initiative and demonstrate a calm, patient and kind approach.

You will be joining a supportive and dedicated team with training available.  Oaklands was judged to be ‘Good’ by Ofsted in July 2023.

As our new SENDCo, you will play a crucial role alongside our existing SENDCo in leading and managing our SEND provision, working closely with a team of teaching assistants to effectively meet the needs of all pupils with emerging or additional needs.

See attached Job Description and Person Specification for further details.

Safeguarding Commitment:

Oaklands Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other pre-appointment checks outlined in KCSIE (September 2024) and satisfactory references.

Application Process:

Visits to the school are actively encouraged, and we invite you to contact the school office to book a tour with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. For more information about our curriculum and the experiences we offer, please visit our school website.

Please submit your application by Wednesday14th May. Shortlisting will take place on Thursady 15th May. Applications may be considered while the position is advertised, and we reserve the right to close the vacancy sooner than the advertised date.
