About the role
Abbots Langley School is looking for a governor to join our Governing Body. School governors support school leaders at a strategic level with their skills, insights and commitment. If you are interested in making a meaningful commitment to children’s futures, this could be the role for you!
The Governing Body of our school helps to ensure the highest quality of education provision and to act as the accountable body for the school. Governors do this by setting the strategic vision and the ethos of the school, together with monitoring and challenging the school’s performance and acting as a supportive but ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher.
Members of the Governing Body include staff, parents, a representative from the Local Education Authority and other local volunteers, all of whom want to see the children at the school receive the very best education possible. Our governors have a range of different backgrounds and experience and bring many beneficial perspectives to the life of the school.
Our governors really enjoy the huge satisfaction we get from seeing the school succeed and feel valued for their part in it. They are a strong team with a variety of skills who work well together and have a shared commitment to continuing the journey together for the benefit of all our children in the future.
Full training and support will be provided therefore no previous knowledge of how an educational setting is organised is required. You will need to be able to work as part of a team and commit to a minimum of attending 6 meetings per year which are held in the evenings, plus training and at least 2 school visits per year.
We have a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A successful appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and appropriate references.
