About the role
School Governor / Trustee vacancy
Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School is a high-achieving academy with a distinctive ethos, enabling pupils to succeed in and enjoy their learning. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and their achievements which continue to improve year on year. We emphasise the importance of the individual’s contribution and take pleasure in sharing and celebrating achievement.
An opportunity has arisen to join our board of trustees as a school governor. Trustees work together to fulfil the purpose of the trust board:
strategic leadership – defining the vision, fostering the trust’s culture and setting the strategy
accountability and assurance – robust and effective oversight of trust operations and performance
strategic engagement – oversight of relationships with stakeholders, ensuring decision-making is supported by meaningful engagement
compliance with all legal and statutory requirements.
The governors work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to continually improve the educational experience for every child at the school.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with a strong financial background who are able to provide financial leadership to ensure the financial sustainability of the school and support the oversight of financial management.
The school is heavily oversubscribed with a warm and inclusive community of approximately 950 students, including the Sixth Form. We are proud to be an "Outstanding" school as judged by OFSTED in December 2022. However, we are not driven by Ofsted and we are committed to our core values of teamwork, respect, honesty, trust, kindness, and ambition. The school has academy status, is an exempt charity and is a company limited by guarantee.
Our school is known for its friendly, lively, and stimulating atmosphere. We emphasise the importance of each individual's contribution, and we take pleasure in sharing and celebrating achievements together. Visitors frequently commend the good behaviour of our pupils and their thirst for knowledge.
Bishop's is a diverse community that offers mutual support and encouragement. We expect everyone within our school community to respect others' heritage, cultures, religion, and beliefs. We believe that the values, self-discipline, and sense of personal worth that our students gain here will be a support throughout their lives as British and Global Citizens.
We welcome applications from all members of the community. We especially encourage interest from racially minoritised communities and from other groups that are under-represented in the UK education system.
We take safeguarding of our students extremely seriously and an enhanced disclosure will be sought through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
