PPA Cover Teacher

About the role

We are looking for an excellent part time PPA cover teacher who will work to inspire, excite and nurture our children and help them to achieve their full potential.  We would especially welcome applications from teachers able to teach primary French or Spanish as part of their role.  As a guide we are looking for someone to work between 1 and 3 days per week. 

Welwyn St Mary’s Primary School are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, energetic and inspirational PPA Cover Teacher to join our team and work with our SLT to ensure excellence at our school from the summer (or even the autumn) term 2025. Responsibilities

As a PPA cover teacher, you will need to:

• Be comfortable working across the school with a range of different classes
• Work closely with class teachers
• Plan and teach well-structured lessons, following the school’s plans and curriculum 
• Help children develop curiosity and knowledge
• Provide pastoral care and support to children within a secure learning environment.
• Assess, monitor, record and feed back to class teachers on the learning needs, progress and achievements of pupils you teach
• Develop and produce visual aids and teaching resources
• Work with others, including teaching assistants, as well as volunteer helpers, to plan and coordinate work
• Share knowledge gained with others and build and maintain relationships with parents
• Ensure the health and safety of children and staff is maintained during all activities, both inside and outside the setting
• Attend staff meetings and staff training
• Keep up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.
• Make a positive contribution to the school’s vision and values.

• Good organisational skills to plan the day and respond to the different needs of the children you teach
• The ability to inspire and enthuse young children
• Resourcefulness, responsibility, patience and a caring nature
• An understanding of the needs and feelings of children
• Ability to work independently with children, as well as being able to work in the wider school team
• A sense of humour and the ability to keep things in perspective
• Energy and stamina to keep up with the needs of a group of young children!
