About the role
Are you an enthusiastic, kind and caring person, ready to take on the role of managing our two teams to achieve high quality teaching and inclusive care for children aged 2-5. We are ready to welcome a new Manager to our lovely playgroups in Potters Bar from September 2025. You would be the Leader and Manager at St John’s Methodist Church playgroup, plus the Manager for our Wayside Jubilee Centre, who have their own Leader. We opened in 1965 and continue to be busy, popular settings with availability for up to 40 children per sessions. Both playgroups have the use of two rooms and lovely secure outside areas.
Our Manager is retiring after working in our lovely playgroup for 30 years, so now it is time for a new chapter in our long history at this site.
We believe that Early Help and continued support for children with SEND is an important part of the ethos at St John’s Nursery Playgroups. We welcome children of all abilities and we have significant experience within the teams to support the children who need extra support.
Do you already have EYFD or EYPS/EYTS or working towards? Already managed or worked in a senior early year’s position?
You will be accountable to the Playgroup Board which is made up of St John’s Methodist Church members with individual expertise who support the Manager and the playgroups.

understanding and compassionate about caring for all children and supporting their families and keen to involve parents in their children’s learning?
enthusiastic about the additional learning which takes place using nature as a learning resource?
a good role model, willing to involve yourself in all areas of the playgroup?
sensitive and responsive to interactions that extend children’s learning experiences?
efficient at administration such as completing funding, SEN documentation, adapting policies?
able to ensure that our quality of care and education continues to be of the highest standards?
understanding of the need to ensure quality standards, safety and adherence to policies are met and maintained?
willing to promote Christian values and work with St John's Methodist Church to host joint events 3 times a year?
We are open 38 weeks of the year for 6 hours a day; the working hours would be an average of 38 hours per week for 42 weeks of the year

Qualifications: Preferred Early Years Professional Status/Early Years Teacher Status
Minimum Level 3 EYE with at least 3 years post qualifying leadership experience, with a commitment to further qualifications.
