About the role
Could you help a small school in a big way? At Preston Primary School we are looking to recruit a new member to join our dedicated and friendly governing board. School governors support school leaders at a strategic level with their skills, insights and commitment acting as a supportive but ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher. This voluntary role would suit someone who has an enthusiastic interest in primary education and is keen to support our ‘Love Learn Aspire’ ethos.
No governing or educational experience is needed; just a commitment to making a positive difference. Your biggest contribution is your time and willingness.
The role involves attending 4-6 governing body meetings a year, which are a mixture of face-to-face meetings or virtual via teams. Meetings generally take place in the evenings. Governors are linked to a particular curriculum/subject area and would be required to visit up to 3 times a year to review and discuss this with the relevant subject leader. Governors are also involved in the financial and premises management of the school. New governor induction training and support will be offered.
Whilst governors don’t get involved with the day-to-day running of the school, they are invited to get involved in the life of school by attending assemblies, performances etc and are also given the important task of handing out stickers to the race winners at Sports Day!
Our governors take pride in seeing the school succeed and feel valued for playing their part in it. They are a strong team with a variety of skills and backgrounds, with a shared commitment to working together for the benefit of all our children.
To find out more, we encourage you to contact the school and ask to speak to the Headteacher in the first instance, who will then be able to put you in touch with one of our Co-Chairs of Governors for an informal chat.
Join us! We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
Please note:
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders are subject safeguarding checks, including a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and satisfactory references. Online searches will be conducted as part of our safer recruitment procedures.
This will remain open until the right candidate has been appointed.
