About the role

We are a small (1FE) first school in the heart of our community in Royston, Hertfordshire and we are privileged to have passionate teachers, enthusiastic children and supportive parents. We have extensive grounds, facilitating Forest School provision and other opportunities for outdoor learning.

Governor (Co-opted) Opportunity

We are seeking a governor to join our dedicated team. As a co-opted governor, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of our school and ensuring the best possible outcomes for our children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting the school's vision, aims, and objectives
  • Planning for the long-term future of the school
  • Approving the school's budget and allocating funds
  • Appointing senior staff, including the headteacher
  • Reviewing student performance and evaluating the school's programmes and practises
  • Acting as a critical friend to the headteacher and senior leaders
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of the school community

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a school governor or in a similar leadership role would be helpful but not essential
  • A good understanding of education, finance, HR or health and safety would also be an advantage but not essential
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Commitment to the school's ethos and values
  • Passion about education with a desire to make a positive impact on children's lives
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to attend meetings (usually 4-6 times per year) and engage in ongoing training and development
