Deputy Headteacher (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The Headteacher and Governing Body of Knebworth Primary School is seeking to appoint a full time Deputy Headteacher on a maternity cover contract for the academic year 2025/26.

We are seeking an inspirational classroom practitioner with successful leadership experience who is excited to help develop the school, working alongside the Headteacher, staff and Governing Body to achieve the school’s strategic goals and vision as well as empowering the school, staff and children to realise their full potential.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • An outstanding role model, who is passionate about high quality, inclusive teaching and learning for all pupils.
  • A committed and passionate individual who has the ability to lead, motivate and support colleagues.
  • An individual who is always striving to improve and who uses innovation and evidence-based research and resources in order to improve practice and raise pupil outcomes.

About the school

Our school is located in the heart of Knebworth Village, which is a close community on the outskirts of Stevenage.  Knebworth School is a magical place to learn and grow and a school where the children are at the centre of everything we do with inclusion and belonging close to our hearts.  We are proud to call ourselves a No Outsiders school, where all members of our school community are celebrated, valued and represented.

Unique to our school is our strong team of passionate, caring staff and our wonderful children who are inquisitive, kind and love to learn.  Everyone knows and respects one another and we are looking for that special someone who will share our school ethos and embody our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

Knebworth School is a good school - Ofsted 2023.  The report notes that Knebworth School is a home from home where everyone is included.  It highlights the fact that pupils know the school values of respect, responsibility and resilience and behave well across the school, respecting everyone’s right to learn.

We can offer you:

  • A school which is known for its exceptional teaching and learning with a curriculum that is both inspiring and ambitious.
  • The autonomy to follow your passions and interests with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • A commitment to ensuring a good work-life balance – “Staff appreciate the support leaders provide, and know that leaders take into account their well-being and workload” – Ofsted 2023.
  • The most magical pupils who will make each and every day rewarding.

Knebworth School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as well as other pre-appointment checks, including an online check, as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2024).

To help us meet our high standards and aspirations of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace, we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply and to join us.

We encourage visits from interested candidates - do come and see our school in action! For more information about the role or to arrange a visit, please email head@knebworth.herts.sch.uk
