About the role

Gaddesden Row JMI School: Pupils treasure their small and happy school. Everybody cares for each other, and this makes the school feel ‘like a family’ (OFSTED 2023).

Situated in the middle of the beautiful countryside of the Gaddesden Estate, our village school has a close community and a committed team works hard to capitalise on our unique environment. Children benefit from small class sizes in all year groups. More than half our pupils travel to us from the nearest town, Hemel Hempstead, whilst others come from the surrounding villages. The school has a recent 'Good' rating from Ofsted, commenting: 'Parents and carers overwhelmingly support the school and .. leadership. It is to your credit that 100% of parents … would recommend this school to others. They say their children are happy, well cared for and make good progress.’

Our school can offer you an interesting and varied job with:

  • Well-motivated children all of whom you can get to know as individuals
  • An ethos of care for others and sensible behaviour
  • A highly professional teaching, support staff and governing body
  • Active and energetic parent and community group

We are looking for:

  • A broad and forward thinking outlook
  • Dedication to the physical, intellectual and social development of our school community
  • An understanding of the challenges and rewards involved in the life of a small rural school
  • Someone who will spend time in the classroom teaching children across the primary range
  • Someone who is flexible when working across different classes
  • Someone to be part of our senior leadership team
  • Able to lead core and foundation subject

At Gaddesden Row School:

  • We are a close-knit community with a supportive family ethos;
  • All staff work together as a team and value each other’s strengths;
  • We give strategies to reduce teacher workload and promote a work-life balance;
  • All children work hard and are committed to their learning;
  • We have well behaved pupils;
  • A wealth of support for professional development is offered;
  • We have dedicated colleagues who work together;
  • We have small class sizes that allow us to focus on personalised learning;
  • We have a rural and calm environment in which to work

We believe Ofsted comments speak volumes – a few quotes below

  • ‘the school is a vibrant, inviting place, where staff feel valued and pupils flourish…….all your staff are proud to work at the school and virtually all say that the school is well led and managed.”
  • “Parents and carers overwhelmingly support the school and leadership. It is to your credit that 100% of parents … would recommend this school to others. They say their children are happy, well cared for and make good progress.’ ‘Adults know the pupils in their classes very well and adapt learning to their needs”
  • EYFS – “The setting is bright, inviting and stimulating. Children clearly enjoy their learning”
  • Safeguarding is effective – ‘keeping safe permeates all that the school does …… Leaders and governors take their role seriously ……..Pupils said they feel safe”
  • Pupil Progress is tracked carefully and….pupils are largely making good progress. Several are on track to achieve the higher standard in reading, writing and maths.’
