Description
Brookland Infant & Nursery School is a successful and happy school set in attractive grounds which are shared with our linked Junior School. We have a friendly and supportive team of teachers and support staff.
The school is a 2 form entry Infant School with an intake of 60 children per year group. There is also a Nursery Class which has an intake of 56, organised into two sessions with a limited option for 30 hour childcare, extra 30 hour places may be available at Lulu's, a pre-school within our grounds.
Teaching staff work together in year group teams to plan a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum supported by teaching assistants. We offer a positive & inclusive learning environment for staff and children. Our curriculum provides a creative approach to learning with memorable first hand experiences and it ensures that children are well motivated.
During our successful OFSTED in March 2024, the inspector commented:
- This is a safe, happy and nurturing school. Pupils are keen learners. Staff know the pupils well. They do their best to meet pupils’ individual needs.
- Staff keep pupils safe and set high expectations for behaviour.
- Pupils enjoy their outdoor learning and the range of after-school clubs.
- The school has planned a curriculum that is exciting and engaging. Teachers know what knowledge to teach and when.
- Leaders have prioritised reading. Skilled staff teach a well-constructed and effective phonics programme. In all lessons, pupils revisit known sounds, learn new ones, and practise blending these sounds together.
- The school promotes pupils’ personal development well. Pupils know that it is important to treat people with kindness and to respect difference. They learn about diverse families and cultures from Nursery onwards.
- Staff enjoy working at the school. They value the training they receive to improve standards. They appreciate the well-being days and being part of a supportive team.
