About the role
An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Science specialist to join our successful Science Faculty. You will have a passion for Science and the skills to engage students across the age and ability range.
We are ideally seeking a Physics or Biology specialist, with A Level teaching available to suitably qualified candidates. The successful applicant will be able to teach all of the science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) at KS3. At GCSE, staff usually teach within their specialism.
The role is offered as a 0.8fte contract and we welcome applications from experienced and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Due to the continuing development of the faculty, there may be future opportunities to increase teaching hours.
Science at Parmiter’s attracts a large number of students to the Sixth Form and there are 17 A Level Science teaching groups this academic year. We are proud that many of our students go on to study science-related degrees. We teach in a new, purpose-built Science block with 12 high-specification teaching laboratories, supported by specialist technicians.
Ofsted (2024) commented that (pupils) “are active participants in their learning and consistently demonstrate high levels of focus … teachers are experts in the subjects they teach … pupils’ conduct and manners are exemplary … any disruption to learning is incredibly rare… staff are extremely positive about the support that they receive from leaders…particularly around their professional development and well-being”. The inspection included a deep dive into several subjects including Science.
Parmiter’s coordinates CPD for the Watford Partnership for Teacher Training and offers a robust induction programme. We can offer the successful candidate:
Staff Well-Being initiatives include an online GP service, Employee Assistance Programme, complimentary use of the on-site Fitness Suite and an on-site subsidised electric vehicle charging point.
A high-quality and well-resourced teaching environment with highly talented and engaged students.
An admission policy prioritising the children of staff (a qualifying period may apply).
Lovely school grounds in leafy surrounds with ample parking.
Parmiter’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment. Applicants must declare any criminal convictions as the post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointments will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via the Disclosure and Barring Service and references from previous employers. We are required to conduct online searches for shortlisted candidates in accordance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. We are an Equal Opportunities employer.
