About the role

Senior Teacher

Are you looking for the next step in your career?

We are looking to appoint a highly skilled person/s, who wants the opportunity to lead and develop others. Our Senior Leads have a 1-day release time, plus half a day PPA. They lead a class, but have an allocated staff member covering your class…. You would not be expected to plan for the 1.5 days out of class. You will have autonomy over a curriculum pathway and able to work with other schools, through our Challenge Partners project. Further training is encouraged, we support leads through masters, NPQs and other courses.

About Us

Greenside is special school for 187 learners aged 2 to 19 years, who have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Over 70% of our learners have Autism and we currently have two sites. Our older learners, learn in the community in the Hyde Shopping area. We have plans for our sweet shop to evolve to a functioning Coffee shop in 2025 and we are also opening an Early Years satellite provision in Jan 2025…. We like to think ‘outside the box’ and grow sustainably!

The Role

Please take time to read about our curriculum offer in the handbook, found on our website. The role focuses on leading T&L through our curriculum. Each Senior Teacher leads a pathway of classes (average 5 classes), plus responsibility for a core curriculum area. Don’t worry though, across the school, teachers work in teams to support our core subjects, it is not down to you to do everything!

The role will demand an individual who is capable of leading and inspiring others. Greenside is a forward-facing school, who is working towards being research informed. The Head is completing a PHD in Special Education Assessment procedures, we are part of Challenge Partners and strive to work with others. You will be able to develop your skills in a workplace that values wellbeing. Many of staff have young families (including the Head) and value their time. We do not email, contact in evening or weekends (unless in emergency, or relating to CP) and do not expect staff to be in before 8am.

We are opening an early year’s satellite provision at Ashtree Primary in Feb 2025. One of these senior teachers roles, could be leading this project. We are looking to develop a ‘close to mainstream’ approach, this will truly be a creative endeavour!

About You

The successful applicant will have significant experience working with children with SEND, this maybe in special school or a mainstream setting. They will have practical experience of working with children and young people who have emotional or mental health need and/or Autism; as well as learners who have complex medical, sensory and physical needs.

Safeguarding

Greenside is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. This role may include opportunity to be a Deputy DSL and complete training associated with this role.

All positions will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and registration with the DBS Update Service together with all other relevant recruitment checks including obtaining references.  Referees will be asked to assess suitability of candidates to work with vulnerable adults, children or young people and will be verbally verified.   The school’s Safeguarding Policy can be found on our website and candidates will be asked about this as part of the recruitment process.
