About the role
Could you help a small school in a big way?
Governors have an important strategic role in the leadership of our school and we are currently looking to recruit a new member to our dedicated and friendly governing body team.
Panshanger Primary School is a small school in the heart of its community, with staff and governors who never rest on their laurels and are always striving to ensure that the curriculum is ambitious and will inspire Panshanger pupils to be integral members of our community. We give children a broad range of experiences that ensures they are fully prepared for their next steps in education.
The governor role is a voluntary one and the prime qualification is to be someone who has an interest and cares about education: your skills, passion and experience will be put to good use to support our staff and children. Governors don’t get involved with the day-to-day running of a school (although many of our governors do get involved in the life of school by attending assemblies, etc); however, their support and challenge is vital to drive school improvement.
What commitment is expected from a governor?
There are four governing body meetings per year plus three Resources Committee meetings for members of that committee. There is also an expectation that governors will make a formal visit once per term – this might be to look at a particular subject area or to look at a policy in action – but note that governors don’t make judgements as to the quality of education.
To find out more, we encourage you to contact the school and ask to speak to the Headteacher in the first instance, who will then be able to put you in touch with one of our Co-Chairs of Governors for an informal chat.
There is information about the current governors and the role of the governor on the Governance Page of our website.
Our current governing body feel we would benefit from someone with experience in Human Resources, however we welcome expressions of interest from anyone in the local community.
Please note that if you are invited to become a governor, you will be subject to pre-appointment checks, including references. Panshanger Primary School is committed to safeguarding children and young people and all governors are subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
