About the role

Who Are We?

The Grange Academy is a vibrant and inclusive junior school, one of ten primary schools in the Agora Learning Partnership, and located in the north of Letchworth Garden City. Guided by our vision of ‘Learning for Life’, we are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of learning in our pupils. As part of Agora, we are proud to provide an education that fosters ambition, curiosity, and resilience. We have a track record of success, having achieved a Good Ofsted outcome in January 2022, and we are on a continuing journey of improvement.

Our Governing Body includes staff, parents and local volunteers, all of whom share a commitment to seeing our children thrive. With a range of different backgrounds and experiences, our governors bring valuable perspectives and skills to the life of the school.

Our governors enjoy the satisfaction of seeing the school succeed and knowing they’ve made a difference. They are a strong team who work well together, united by their shared commitment to continuing the school’s journey of success for the benefit of all our pupils.

What’s Involved?

No prior experience in education is necessary—full training and support will be provided. You will need to:

• Work as part of a team.

• Commit to attending a minimum of six meetings per year (usually held in the evenings).

• Undertake training and make at least two school visits per year.

We are particularly interested in candidates who may have the potential to step into a leadership role, such as Chair of Governors, Co-Chair, or Vice Chair, in the future, but this is not essential. Other areas of experience which would benefit the team would be safeguarding, Children Looked After and/or finance.

Requirements

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A successful appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and appropriate references.
