About the role

We are a small, single form primary school looking for a school cleaner to join the team at our friendly school. This post is for 15 hours per week over 5 days (i.e 3 hours a day), term time.  The areas to be cleaned would mainly be classrooms, boys and girls toilets and corridors but could be different on different days - we would let you know.

There would also be the opportunity for overtime either during term times, weekends or school holidays.

We can be very flexible on the hours that the cleaning can be carried out; either early morning (e.g. 5.30am - 8.30am) or in the evening (e.g 3.30pm to 6.30pm).  If cleaning took place in the morning, the work should be completed by 8.30am.  If cleaning took place in the evening, the earliest start time would be 3.30pm.  The pay rate is £11.60 per hour, with scope to increase based on commitment and performance.

No experience of cleaning is required and we can provide all necessary cleaning equipment.

You would be joining a happy, committed team of staff and would be able to make use of the school's Employee Assistance Programme (health and wellbeing services) and also Herts Rewards which provide discounts and offers at supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

Please contact the school office on 01582713452 if you would like to know more.

The selection procedure for the post will be as follows:

Anonymised application forms will be reviewed online.  The recruitment panel will review all application forms for:

  • Suitability for the role, per the job description and job specification
  • Experience
  • Complete and accurate information on the application form

The recruitment panel will shortlist candidates for the role, view full application forms and invite successful applicants to interview.

At interview stage, candidates may be asked to undertake a task relevant to the role and also partake in a formal interview with the interview panel, at least one of which will have Safer Recruitment training.

Based on the information gained from the application form and interview, the recruitment panel will meet to discuss which candidate, if any, has been successful in obtaining the role.  The successful applicant will be notified and a conditional job offer letter will be sent to them.  Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified and they will be offered the opportunity to discuss their application and interview with a member of the recruitment panel.

Provided consent has been given by the applicant, references may be sort at any point during the recruitment.

Please note, we will be shortlisting and interviewing as and when we recieve applications- therefore apply early to avoid disappointment.

The school is committed to safeguarding children and young people.  All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
