About the team

Would you like an opportunity to support Hertfordshire delivering better outcomes for children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

Within the service, there is a vacancy for an Inclusion Specialist specialising in speech, language, communication needs (SLCN) and autism.

About the role

A key function of SEND Specialist Advice and Support Services (SENDSAS) is to ensure that the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (0-25), with a range of SEND, is met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and Children’s Services strategic objectives.

The role of the Inclusion Specialist is to:

  • enhance and support schools and settings, enabling them to meet the needs of children and young people ages 5-25 who have autism, social communication needs and/or SLCN
  • offer individual support to children and young people 5-25 with autism, social communication needs and/or SLCN, working in partnership with the Specialist Advisory Teachers
  • promote and pro-actively facilitate partnership working to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND enabling them to fully access education and make progress in line with their potential

About you

  • Experience of working with children and young people with SEND in a range of settings at either Key Stage 2, 3 or 4
  • GCSE English and Maths grade C or equivalent
  • A-level/NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to meeting the needs of children and young people (0-25) with SEND in area of speech, language, communication and autism needs
  • Experience of contributing to assessment and reviews cycles e.g. APDR, EHCP etc.
  • Ability to travel independently - access to a vehicle and current driving licence required

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support schools in embedding approaches to improve access to education for children and young people, as well as supporting the Local Authority processes as required under the direction of the Specialism Lead/Lead Teacher by attending various panels, meetings and reviews on behalf of the service. 

As part of the role the post holder will work collaboratively with the Delivering Special Provision Locally (DSPL) Partnerships and other colleagues both within and outside SEND SAS to promote early intervention, assessment and excellent inclusive practice.
