About the role

Cowley Hill Primary School is seeking a visionary and inspiring Headteacher to lead our vibrant, inclusive and popular two-form entry school. Following the retirement of our Headteacher after 12 successful years, this is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced leader or someone ready for their first Headship.

Located in Borehamwood, on the fringe of Hertfordshire and bordering the London Borough of Barnet, Cowley Hill is a thriving school at the heart of its community. We take great pride in our cultural diversity, with over 35 languages spoken at home, and we are dedicated to providing excellent support for pupils with EAL, FSM, and SEND. Prospective applicants are warmly invited to visit the school, by appointment only, on Wednesday 8th January or Friday 10th January between 9AM and 2PM, to experience our dynamic and welcoming community firsthand.

We are on a journey of continuous improvement. Our ethos, “Learning for tomorrow every day,” lies at the heart of everything we do. We offer a broad and creative curriculum, coupled with outstanding extra-curricular opportunities, to inspire a love of learning and nurture every child’s potential. Our close partnerships with local schools, including the Haberdashers’ Boys’ and Girls’ Schools, further enrich the educational experiences we provide.

Are you an inspirational and visible leader who will build on the school’s strong foundations and drive innovation and excellence in teaching and learning?  We are looking for a Headteacher to continue our mission to foster a culture where every child feels valued, supported and empowered, while also strengthening our commitment to inclusivity, well-being, and community engagement.

In return, we offer a well-resourced school with superb facilities, a supportive and welcoming community, and a dedicated, well-established team of staff and governors who are eager to work collaboratively with you. If you have the vision, passion and experience to guide Cowley Hill to even greater future success, we would love to hear from you.

You will:

  • Effectively manage school operations, finances, and resources.
  • Inspire and empower staff and pupils through strong leadership.
  • Drive the school’s progress toward excellence with passion and expertise.
  • Champion innovation and improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.
  • Be a visible and approachable leader, fostering clear communication.
  • Strengthen connections with the local community.

We offer:

  • Compassionate, experienced, and dedicated staff who are committed to the school’s success.
  • Strong community relationships and a well-earned positive reputation.
  • Well-maintained facilities paired with excellent resources.
  • A curriculum designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Supportive Governors devoted to the school’s mission and growth.
  • To prioritise well-being for both pupils and staff.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, including the Headteacher Induction Programme.

If you have the vision, passion and dedication to inspire our pupils, we’d love to hear from you.

Please make an appointment to visit the school by contacting Karen Scott on 020 8953 2218 or email at sbm@cowleyhill.herts.sch.uk
