About the role
We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Food Studies Technician. Food Studies plays a vital part in the secondary school curriculum and the subject is highly valued by parents and students at the school. It is an extremely popular subject in which students achieve outstanding results.
The department enjoys excellent examination results and the reason for this has been the hard work, drive, skill, enthusiasm and passion of the Food teachers and the Food technician. We are keen to maintain this.
At present, the department teaches Food Studies to all KS3 students. The Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering is taught to students in years 10 and 11 . There is a large practical component to all the teaching within the department.
The post involves the preparation of lesson materials, including online shopping, maintenance of equipment, stock taking and storage of equipment. You will need to be flexible, have good IT skills and be able to work as a member of a team. Previous experience as a Food Studies Technician or other role in a school environment would be an advantage.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a catering or similar environment, have a minimum standard of GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, a working knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and a passion for working with food.
There is a strong commitment to professional development at the school and we anticipate that the person appointed will be able to benefit from training opportunities in all aspects of food, nutrition, hygiene, health and safety.
Desirable qualities we are looking for:
Experience working within a catering or similar environment
Minimum standard of GCSE A* - C ( or equivalent) in Maths and English
Working knowledge of basic food preparation techniques
