Deputy Head

We are looking to appoint a highly skilled person, who has had successful experience as a senior leader in special education, to be the new Deputy Head of Greenside School.

About Us

Greenside is special school for 187 learners aged 2 to 19 years, who have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Over 70% of our learners have Autism and we currently have two sites. Our older learners, learn in the community in the Hyde Shopping area. We have plans for our sweet shop to evolve to a functioning Coffee shop in 2025 and we are also opening an Early Years satellite provision in Jan 2025…. We like to think ‘outside the box’ and grow sustainably!

The Role 

The role will demand an individual who is capable of leading and inspiring others. Greenside is a forward-facing school, who is working towards being research informed. The Head is completing a PHD in Special Education Assessment procedures, we are part of Challenge Partners and strive to work with others. You will be able to develop your skills in a workplace that values wellbeing. Many of staff have young families (including the Head) and value their time. We do not email, contact in evening or weekends (unless in emergency, or relating to CP) and do not expect staff to be in before 8am.

About You 

The successful applicant will have significant experience as both an outstanding teacher and successful senior leader, within a special school. They will have significant practical experience of working with children and young people who have emotional or mental health need and/or Autism; as well as learners who have complex medical, sensory and physical needs. The successful candidate will have a clear vision as to how to promote, inspire and enable learning and progress. The successful candidate will be an effective and fair people manager and have a good knowledge of OfSTED regulatory standards and requirements.  

Safeguarding

Greenside is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. This role may include opportunity to be the school DSL, but will require DH to be a DDSL.

All positions will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and registration with the DBS Update Service together with all other relevant recruitment checks including obtaining references.  Referees will be asked to assess suitability of candidates to work with vulnerable adults, children or young people and will be verbally verified.   The school’s Safeguarding Policy can be found on our website and candidates will be asked about this as part of the recruitment process.
