About the role

Would you like to work in a role that is rewarding, interesting and worthwhile every day?

Well, at Killigrew, we are looking to appoint a teaching assistant to work under the direction of a class teacher. The hours are broadly 8:30am-1.15pm/3:15pm Monday-Friday, term time only, but we are happy to talk flexibly about any adjustments to these hours which might suit your personal circumstances. The role will be based initially in a KS1 classroom.

We can offer you a friendly, experienced and welcoming staff team who are happy to help you settle in whether you are an experienced teaching assistant or someone who is new to the role. Every year we run a programme of TA training, based on what our TAs suggest would be helpful to them within their role, and this helps us to build a team of confident practitioners.  Some of our TAs also take the opportunity to work towards a professional qualification. If this is your first TA position, we also offer an extended induction with the opportunity to shadow a more experienced colleague and you will be provided with a supportive mentor for the first six months of your time with us.

In addition, our school is set in lovely grounds, and we are very proud of how we support our children to learn and flourish. A quote from a recent parent questionnaire sums up some of the things that we are proud to offer as a school and we feel it reflects who we are:

I have recommended Killigrew to many parents since joining this wonderful community… I feel the school is well organised with clear leadership and loyal happy staff that go above and beyond to ensure the needs of the children in their care are well met. I love that you are always striving to improve, that you continually look for different ways to teach our children and that there is a wide range of activities available such as tennis and music lessons. You take these additional subjects seriously and employ staff that know how to teach these specialist areas which is key to success. I count my lucky stars every day that we found a place at Killigrew and feel so welcome and supported by all the staff.

We appreciate that the role of a teaching assistant is incredibly important as you will be helping our children to reach their goals. So, we are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking person who can motivate and inspire children to achieve their very best. The successful candidate will have good literacy and numeracy skills so that you can use a range of approaches to help each pupil. Our knowledgeable teachers are also there to help you think about the different ways children learn. Of course, the best thing about the teaching assistant role is that you will never experience a dull moment, with each day presenting new opportunities, and surprises!

If you are interested in hearing more about the role before application, then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01727 774200.  Please note that we reserve the right to close the advert and interview earlier than the advertised date if we find a suitable candidate.

We are committed to the safeguarding of children.  This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.  An enhanced disclosure will be sought through the DBS as part of Hertfordshire County Council’s pre-employment checks. Please note that our safeguarding requirements and practices mean we are only able to consider complete applications submitted using the application form-we are unable to accept CV applications.
