About the role
York Road Nursery School are looking for an enthusiastic individual to become our new caretaker. You would have the responsibility of the smooth running of the premises and ensuring that the site is clean, presentable, safe and secure for all of those that use it in any capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the buildings and site are secure, undertaking daily security and health and safety checks
- Undertaking general porterage duties including moving furniture and equipment in the school
- Undertake minor repairs (i.e. those not requiring a qualified craftsperson) and general maintenance of the buildings and site.
- Receive deliveries to the school site and put away stock as required
- Be a designated key holder providing emergency access to the school site
- Daily checking and replacing as necessary paper towels, toilet rolls and tissues
- Prompt clearing of icy or slippery surfaces (including snow clearance and leaves in adverse weather conditions)
- Periodic checks of playground equipment
- Daily checking of the garden area for hazards
- Operate systems such as cooling, heating, lighting and security
- Act as school contact in relation to premises related contractors
- Organise testing for asbestos and other Health and Safety Procedures
- In conjunction with the Head teacher and Premises administrator to oversee Health and Safety on the school site.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
You should have a good working level of English and Maths be a good communicator and be able to liaise with contractors and staff, have the skills and experience to carry out a range of maintenance tasks, in addition you should have a good level of IT skills necessary for record keeping. A working knowledge of policies and procedures in relation to school security, relevant health and safety and COSHH regulations would be desirable but training could be provided to the right candidate. You should have the ability to work on your own initiative and be able to prioritise your maintenance tasks. You should also have an awareness of the dangers of working with tools around small inquisitive children and where necessary be able to cordon off or create a safe working area.
