About the role

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, dedicated and supportive individual to be our new Assistant Headteacher. This is a permanent, full-time post from September 2025.

We can offer you:

 A unique opportunity where the size of the school allows for greater involvement, responsibility and career progression than might be possible in a larger setting;

A well-resourced classroom with excellent full-time support staff and motivated children;

Regular, reliable PPA and leadership time;

A recent Ofsted report (December 2024) which recognises that ‘school leaders, including governors, have taken positive steps to ensure the school has maintained its high standards. The school supports staff well and is considerate of their workload, well-being and training';

Commercial schemes to support teachers' planning;

The 'best of both worlds' in our new federation of two schools. We enjoy the ‘family feel’ of a small setting where we get to know each child really well, along with the benefits and security that comes from being part of a larger organisation;

A commitment to your CPD. We invest well in staff development using links to the Diocese of St Albans, HFL Education, NPQ programmes and coaching;

An experienced, supportive Governing Board;

Opportunities to make a significant difference in shaping school development and curriculum;

A well-resourced school, extensive grounds in a beautiful village with a popular deli take away next door!

We are looking for someone who:

Brings passion, energy and love for education - an irresistible optimist;

Is a strong classroom practitioner who can lead by example as a teacher and subject leader;

Can establish and maintain good relationships with children, colleagues, families and governors;

Will challenge and support colleagues with honesty, care and compassion;

Supports our Christian ethos and values;

Understands the unique rewards and challenges of working in a small school;

Has high standards of professional conduct and personal integrity.

If you are interested in the role, we would love to hear from you and strongly encourage visits to our school. Please contact Mrs Karen Baker or Mrs Leanda Goulding admin@ponsbourne.herts.sch.uk 01707 872395.

At Ponsbourne St Mary’s, we are committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

To help us meet our high standards and aspirations of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace, we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
